Responding to the Climate Change Threat

Once in a while we need to remind ourselves that the most important political issue of our time is protecting the future existence of the human race.

Given the climate change threat, that means we need to do two things, and do them quickly:

1. impose a $40/ton carbon tax by international agreement (or its equivalent).
2. create an enforcement mechanism.

There is only one really practical enforcement mechanism I know of: a climate club.
Nations that belong to the club would agree to impose a stiff tariff on imports from nations that do not belong, or that fail to impose the $40/ton tax.

(Granted that there are lots of details to work out, but the basic idea is simple, definable, and will work.   For reasons why, this article is a good starting point.)
